Overview

A field test combining a tracked mobile platform with a cobot arm to verify work capability in rough outdoor terrain.

Project Background & Purpose

WIM is field-testing a mobile manipulator — a cobot arm mounted on a tracked base — to see whether it can do real work in outdoor environments a wheeled robot can't reach: grass, slopes, and rough ground. Conventional cobot platforms, designed for flat indoor floors, struggle to move reliably or work on uneven outdoor terrain, and running the mobile base, arm, and AI compute together on one moving platform adds further constraints.

Components

  • Tracked mobile platform
  • Collaborative robot arm
  • NVIDIA Jetson onboard AI compute

Process Steps

  1. 1The tracked platform autonomously navigates to the work site
  2. 2Onboard NVIDIA Jetson compute perceives the surrounding environment
  3. 3The cobot arm performs real work from the moving platform
